Open Day: Insights into the Komax world
Inside Komax
What does the vertical factory look like from the inside? What machines does Komax use to manufacture its products? And what is it like to work at the company? An insight.
Key insights
At the open day, visitors to the Komax headquarters got to know the vertical factory from the inside.
A large exhibition presented the different Komax and Schleuniger products available and what they can do.
Many apprentices introduced themselves and their profession and gave insights into practical training at Komax.
A temporary market hall was set up in the Expo building, with food stalls, seating and a wide range of attractions.
Saturday, 29 October 2022 marked the culmination of two intensive weeks at Komax. Komax presented information about itself with various events from 20 October 2022 onwards. And then on Saturday: the open day.
Neighbors, friends and family were invited to get to know the world market leader Komax from the inside. Over 3.000 people took the opportunity and attended the open day. The focus was on Komax and Schleuniger products as well as the new vertical factory.
The award-winning facade is familiar to those who pass by the building. But what about inside? We followed the flow of visitors and took a look around.
Huge product exhibition
Before going to the vertical factory, visitors are introduced to the “Expo building”. Komax bought it last year from the lift manufacturer Schindler. Before the building is extensively renovated, it is being used to house a huge exhibition space.
Small, large and very large machines from Komax and Schleuniger range are set up in the large hall. They are grouped according to industry: Industry-specific wires are processed for the automotive sector, industry and aviation. The largest machine measures no less than four times eleven meters.
A museum has been set up right next to it. It shows the development of the Komax machines from the beginning in 1975 through to the state-of-the-art systems in the exhibition hall.
Relax and enjoy
After the museum, there is a break from the many insights. The event team has set up a huge market hall with many seating options. Fine meals to suit all tastes are served at market stalls, and refreshing drinks are also available. The little ones run around in the children’s play area and the photo booth is permanently occupied.
A show corner with a stage offers additional entertainment. Over the course of the day, two top acts from the region showcase their skills. VoiceStep.Company from the music school in Cham presents songs they will be performing at the European Youth Musical Festival song contest in November. In the afternoon, the Young Wind Band Rontal gives a concert and inspires its listeners with youthful and fresh brass music.
Tour of the vertical factory
After refreshments, the tour continues to the vertical factory. The Komax colleagues have organized a tour of the production facilities for their guests, providing insights into the various areas of activity. For example, procurement, incoming goods, final assembly, machine packaging and mechanical production. The visitors listen attentively and let their gaze wander through the open atrium: four floors with offices, production areas, coffee and meeting zones … all in a single building that is flooded with light. It certainly seems like a good place to work.
The automated small parts warehouse is particularly interesting. Small trolleys move through the entire building, across all floors. They function completely automatically and deliver the small parts required at the various production workstations.
A career show especially for future apprentices
In the vertical factory, all 12 apprenticeship professions at Komax were also presented by the apprentices at their own stations. Komax not only offers traditional apprenticeship professions such as electronics technician, IT specialist or commercial training, but also other professions such as logistics specialist and digital business developer.
Right in the heart of the action is budding mediamatician Flavio, who explains how the videos that can be seen everywhere in the building today were created. He is a real expert here, because he was actively involved in the recording process.
Apprentices regularly have the opportunity to implement their own apprentice projects at Komax. Mechanical design engineer Joel, polymechanic Alain and automation engineer Manuel present their "model car wash" project at their station.
Visitors to the open day not only get an intensive look behind the scenes at Komax, but also experience, first hand, what makes the special "Komax spirit": Komax colleagues interact with each other in an open, friendly and relaxed way, yet the company is still very efficient. A world market leader. Everyone will certainly remember the event for a long time to come.
